Smell and Memory Are Hard Wired to Your Brain

Do you remember your childhood at your grandma’s when you get a whiff of an apple pie? You just experienced Odor Evoked Autobiographical Memory.

Smells are so good at bringing up memories from the past especially those before our teenage years. This is because smells and memories associated with them are hard-wired in the brain.

It is also common to remember memories from your childhood. One reason for such is that one’s sense of smell is strongest in his younger years. Adults also have what is known as reminiscence bump which means that they have a hard time remembering memories from their adolescence stage.
